California-based Alkemist Labs has renewed its ISO accreditation and expanded its suite of testing services to include heavy metals and pesticides.

The lab announced it continues to meet the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 from the American Association for Laboratory Accreditation (A2LA). Alkemist said its ISO/IEC accreditation (Certificate #3851.01) may be viewed here.

The company also added accreditation for Pesticides and Heavy Metals per UPS-NF <561>.

“Alongside identity and potency testing, purity testing is an essential component of meeting GMP requirements, and verifying a clean product, so we’re glad to offer this to our clients,” said Elan Sudberg, CEO of Alkemist Labs. “We’re working on adding additional ISO accreditations for other services we offer, which we expect to achieve in the near future.”

Heavy metals (elemental impurities): Growing plants can pick up contamination, including heavy metals in the soil and environment.  Alkemist Labs’ capabilities reportedly enable them to satisfy both USP <561> and Prop 65 limits.

Pesticides: Although pesticides are considered a single category, it takes four separate analytical instrumental analyses to test for all those substances listed in USP <561>, which sets criteria for sampling.

The lab also announced that a new service coming in April will be for Residual solvents: USP method <467>.
