Expo West 2024 supplement preview: What’s happening on the show floor

Nearly 3,500 exhibitors are scheduled to attend this year's Expo West natural products trade show at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, CA.

From the latest products and science to ingredient and delivery format innovations, here's a sneak—but not exhaustive—peek at what some of the close to 600 supplement industry players will exhibit on the show floor from March 14 to 16.

Aker BioMarine
Booth 3304

Aker BioMarine will spotlight the benefits of Superba Krill oil and its “phospholipid advantage” for healthy aging and how this patented concentration of phospholipids, omega-3 fatty acids (EPA & DHA), choline and astaxanthin work at a cellular level to deliver whole body support.

Alkemist Labs

Alkemist Labs is set to highlight its expanded services that provide a full suite of testing services for clients, as well as the new protection of certificates of analysis against counterfeits and unauthorized tampering using HealthLOQ’s document protection blockchain software.

Propolis brand Bee&You will showcase its natural bee products from skincare solutions to food supplements. At the show, it is launching a new face care product and innovative capsules that contain essential minerals and vitamins.

BGG will be sampling innovation through finished products including functional chocolates featuring its AstaZine Natural Astaxanthin and ApplePhenon Apple Polyphenols; gummy delivery forms of ApplePhenon, AstaZine and TheraPrimE; as well as a dragon fruit punch drink with AstaZine, ApplePhenon and TheraPrimE Tocotrienols, sweetened with BGG’s next-gen Vitosa Stevia. The team’s scientists and leadership will also be on hand to discuss the latest clinical research, key developments including the expansion of its natural astaxanthin farm and its sustainability achievements, and opportunities in the functional food and beverage space.

BIO-CAT will feature its newest branded ingredient, OPTIZIOME Macro Digest, a clinically tested and proprietary blend of six enzymes designed to improve the digestion of the core macros—protein, fats and carbohydrates. In addition, BIO-CAT’s newest probiotic OPTIBIOME BS50 has claims for gas and bloating, with additional claims for protein digestion.

Brightseed recently announced the launch of Manitoba Harvest Bioactive Fiber into Whole Foods Markets nationwide, which uses its novel Bio Gut Fiber ingredient, made from upcycled hemp hulls to help close the fiber gap and promote a healthy gut, improve digestion, reduce bloating and gas and support weight management. In addition to this new partnership,Brightseed will discuss how its Forager AI platform accelerates bioactive discovery, biological validation and ingredient formulation from years to months.

CON-CRĒT Creatine

In addition to the 60-count bottle, CON-CRĒT Creatine HCl Gummies will now also be available in a three-serving (nine gummy) re-sealable pouch in Berry Zing flavor in support of on-the-go muscle health, brain health, immune health, heart health and overall cellular health.

FrieslandCampina Ingredients
Booth 4548

FrieslandCampina will focus on consumer-centric concepts for delivery of its protein and prebiotic ingredients in shakes, gummies, ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages and bars. Ingredients include the Biotis Fermentis blend of protein, prebiotics and probiotics for gut health support in athletes, Biotis GOS-OP High Purity ‘Good to Gut’ prebiotic gummies, Planteris pea and faba protein ingredients, Excellion dried-milk proteins, and a new brain health ingredient.

Alongside its fruit-, vegetable- and grain-based ingredient solutions, ​FutureCeuticals will be featuring its Coffeeberry portfolio of coffee fruit ingredients and VitAlign, a broad-spectrum, plant-based complex with applications across a range of categories, including healthy aging. Samples will also showcase the company’s freeze-drying and custom coating capabilities.

Gaia Herbs
Booth 3843

Gaia herbs will be showcasing recent and upcoming product launches including its new postbiotics, women’s line and soon-to-market mushroom gummies. In addition to the Gaia Herbs’ portfolio, the company will also present products and innovation from Salus (Floradix) as an extension of its commitment to providing a diverse and comprehensive range of wellness solutions.

Gencor is announcing its newest published study on its PEA ingredient, Levagen+, for improved cognition and memory in college students, revealing a direct improvement in memory and corresponding increases in circulating neurotrophic marker levels. The company will also host a seminar on the study’s findings ​with lead researcher Dr. Mohammed Gulrez Zariwala, director of the Centre for Nutraceuticals at University of Westminster in London, on March 15 from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the Marriott Platinum Ballroom 3-4.

Ingredients By Nature
Booth 4652

Ingredients By Nature (IBN) is announcing a newly published in-vivo study on its citrus-flavonoid blend Eriomin on aging liver health and function, showing improvements in the hepatic redox environment and its potential to counteract excess oxidative stress in aging-related liver and delay the onset of the senescence phenotype. Dr. Thais Cesear, head researcher of Eriomin, and Rob Brewster, president at IBN, will be available to review the published data and applications. 

Kaneka Nutrients
Booth 4431

Kaneka Nutrients will be discussing the benefits of Kaneka Ubiquinol and its role in supporting preconception wellness, improving heart health and guarding against premature aging by fighting oxidative stress, safeguarding mitochondrial health and supporting cellular energy production.

Kyowa Hakko
Booth 4127

Kyowa Hakko will provide samples of Karma Energy Water to highlight the ease of functional food and beverage formulation with 250 mg of its Cognizin Citicoline branded ingredient for enhanced focus. The new product from Karma Water also includes nine essential vitamins and 150 mg of natural caffeine for energy without the crash. Karma Water delivers functional benefits through its patented PushCap that stores active ingredients in an airtight chamber until the consumer is ready to drink.

Lonza Capsules & Health Ingredients will showcase its range of launch-ready formulas and innovative delivery systems, as well as share insights into how supplement brands can attract the new generation of active lifestyle consumers. 

Mountain Rose Herbs
Booth 1617

Mountain Rose Herbs will be featuring its organic single herb extracts and functional extract blends. Fresh from the farm to the tincture press, its line of extracts includes more than 175 options for health and wellness. The company will also highlight some of its new teas as well as a large display of bulk herbs and spices.

Nature’s Way

Nature’s Way will preview new, sugar-free versions of some of its most popular gummy vitamins—made with plant-based fruit pectin and sweetened with monk fruit and Stevia extracts— including the Alive! Zero Sugar Men’s Gummy Multivitamin, Alive! Zero Sugar Women’s Gummy Multivitamin and Sambucus Zero Sugar Immune Gummy. The new products will be available beginning this spring and summer.

Novonesis is launching its fit-for-food probiotic, MindAble 1714 at Natural Products Expo West, which can be incorporated into consumer products that contain hard chocolate or compounds, such as chocolate bars, snack bars, frozen desserts and cereals. It will also be sampling the ProSilience HU58 probiotic solution, Vertera ProBite natural enzyme for improved plant-based meat texture, and natural vitamin K2-7 MenaquinGold.

NOW will showcase its new supplement Calm & Focus, formulated with Zembrin, as well as its recently launched Quercetin Phytosome, which is encased in a phospholipid sphere to make it up to 20 times more bioavailable than standard quercetin. It will also feature its NOW Kid and NOW Baby line of products in Hot Products booth #N1005, NOW Kids Kid Vits in reformulated flavors and its new addition Diaper BUTTer Paste with soothing calendula.

Nuherbs and Nutraditions

NuHerbs (and its retail brand NuTraditions) will focus on its Hello Dreams and Goodbye Fatigue (ginseng and schisandra extract) edible oral strips and represent its Jade Dragon formulas, Bespoke Extracts and hibiscus PhytoHib 100.

Nuritas will address how plant peptides, specifically PeptiStrong, is able to outcompete other strength and muscle health promoting ingredients—sharing new data indicating how PeptiStrong outperforms branched chain amino acid leucine. In booth, the company will provide samples of gels, sachets, capsules and bars made with PeptiStrong and will showcase its PeptiTone, PeptiSleep and PeptiControl ingredients.

PLT Health Solutions 
Booth 4005

PLT Health Solutions is introducing two new brands and highlighting its newest clinical evidence in the areas of joint and cartilage health, weight management, sports nutrition and cognitive performance. The first brand Strengthera Muscle Maintenance+Vitality targets muscle health, strength and endurance and improved physical functioning. The second ingredient Serezin promotes restorative sleep and pain relief to increase vigor and mobility during the day.

Prinova will be demoing a custom-flavored Salted Watermelon Margarita Hydration Stick Pack, made with a sodium, potassium, calcium and magnesium electrolyte blend and naturally sweetened with Stevia. The demo will showcase the growing trend for functional beverages made with hydrational ingredient blends, the trend for beverages that offer Mocktail flavors, as well as Prinova’s integration of ingredient sourcing, flavor creation, blending and contract manufacturing solutions.

ResBiotic, resB Gut Lung Support probiotic, will exhibit its new prebeet ENERGY+ supplement, a caffeine-free, 4-in-1 berry-flavored powdered formula designed to improve digestion and regularity, supercharge all-natural energy, enhance skin appearance and strengthen heart health.

Rootine is showcasing its new Adaptogen Powder Drink Mixes with blends for sleep, stress and focus, which the company explains were developed based on the  science of circadian health and contain potent doses of clinical grade adaptogens that work within 20 minutes for most.

Sabinsa will share results from a new clinical studies on Shagandha (Ashwagandha root extract 2.5% USP grade) for stress and anxiety and clinically studied liver health ingredient LivLonga, a blend of three scientifically validated ingredients Curcumin C3 Complex, Livinol and bioavailability enhancer BioPerine.  The company will also feature its suite of branded ingredients that support cognitive function, metabolic health, gut health, blood sugar and organ health. 

SmartyPants Vitamins
Booth 3622

SmartyPants will provide a sneak peek at an all-new innovation launching in April—a Kids Fiber & Veggies gummy supplement—specifically formulated to support regular digestion in kids ages 4+ with an organic green veggie blend and plant-derived prebiotic dietary fiber. SmartyPants will be featured as part of Unilever's Health & Wellness Collective alongside brands like Olly and Welly.

Sirio is launching the BloomDays postbiotic gummy featuring EpiCor, a whole food yeast fermentate postbiotic ingredient from Cargill. The postbiotic ingredient is backed by eight human and eight pre-clinical studies in support of immune and gut health.

Trace Minerals
Booth 3605

Trace Minerals is introducing new Salty Mango and Salty Berry Lemonade flavors for its ZEROLyte electrolyte drink mix and Magnesium Glycinate Powder flavors including Grape and Orange Dream. Also launching are Shilajit capsules and new line of pet products including Pet Calming Drop, Pet Immune Support, Pet Joint Support and Pet Omega 3. It is also hosting an education session entitled Remineralizing the World: Understanding where minerals and micronutrients fit in consumer health and wellness needs​, on March 15 from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. in Marriott Platinum Ballroom 5.

Vitamin Angels

Celebrating 30 years of the organization and using the theme "We can be the generation to end malnutrition,"  Vitamin Angels will host a walk-through booth that spotlights the organization's work in Vietnam. The team will be sharing more about partnership opportunities and ways that people can get involved on the ground.
